If you’re eco-conscious or simply concerned about the environment, then you might have been aware of Earth Hour.
In 2007, in 2007, the WWF group, which was previously referred to as the World Wildlife Fund and World Wide Fund for Nature, began a global campaign which urged communities and businesses alike to switch off the lights for an hour to bring awareness to conservation.
It’s a symbol of peace that began in Sydney, Australia and now encompasses more than 7,000 cities across over 100 nations. It’s also possible to participate as it’s a great opportunity to put your phone down and bond with your pet, and show commitment to helping the environment.
Here are four things to do this Earth Hour with your dog.
-
1/4 Reading Is For Everyone
Have you got a book that you’ve wanted to read or revisit but didn’t have the time for it? Earth Hour might be a perfect chance to do that.
Finding a nice cozy spot at home and cuddling up with your dog sounds calming enough. Candles that are well-placed can help you finish those pages you’ve wanted to read for a while, or you can even read in front of a fireplace, if you have one.
Reading aloud to your pup might also be as relaxing for your pet as it can be for you. Since, let’s face it everyone loves reading a good book before bed?
-
2/4 Fetch At Night
Depending on how dark it gets in your region It’s possible that you don’t feel safe walking outside even with your pet beside you. However, if you’ve got an outdoor space, there’s always something that you can do to enjoy the time while playing with your dog. It doesn’t matter if it’s a frisbee or a ball, or sticks or a stick, your dog is sure to have the time of his life while playing in the darkness in fetch!
Dogs are able to see better in dark conditions than humans can. So it’s likely that they won’t even need lights to play.
That said, you should always have a flashlight on hand for emergency situations. In the course of the day, you should make sure the area in your backyard is clear of messes and holes the dog could get caught in. Don’t spend Earth Hour at the nearest emergency vet clinic.
-
3/4 Meditation With Your Pup
Earth Hour can offer a peace and quiet time for you and your pet. There are many things that can go on in the course of a day, as well as many anxiety that could accompany them. This is a chance to simply relax and breathe deep.
The word “meditation” doesn’t necessarily mean you must sit in a certain spot and hum until you reach your Zen. Sometimes, it’s simply sitting in a candlelit room with your pup and taking in the quiet.
The chance to connect with your dog by petting them and cuddling them with you could put you in a great relaxation state that will ease tension and even lower your blood pressure.
-
4/4 Take A Nap
The lights are all in the dark, right? The lights will be off during Earth Hour, not only will you turn off your lights, but many of your electronic devices will go dark as well. That means the television as well as your computer and perhaps — if you’re lucky maybe even your cell phone.
There’s a chance that you’ve had a tough week, so an extra night of sleep can help you and your dog great. Making sure to get up early can provide you with a good head start into the following day when you together with your dog take a walk in the morning with your dog.
Earth Hour is a great opportunity to show that you are committed to a sustainable and green planet. It is also a great method to bond with nature and connect with your beloved dog and canine companions!
